Obituary of Phillip Arnold Sweeney

Sweeney Poultney, VT – Phillip Arnold Sweeney, age 68, passed away on February 8, 2017 at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Phillip was born on July 21, 1948 in Rutland, Vermont, the son of the late Arnold and Regina (Burns) Sweeney. Phillip was a graduate of Poultney High School and attended Adirondack Community College. He was a long-time employee of General Electric in Rutland, Vermont. Phillip was a history buff. He was a fan of the History channel and loved reading. He enjoyed doing yardwork and appreciated the beauty when completed. One knew after spending a brief time with him that Phillip loved telling stories to people. He and his wife like traveling to the Cape for vacations. He was also a classic car enthusiast, often attending car shows throughout the area. Phillip was a communicant of St Raphaels Catholic Church in Poultney and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Fair Haven. He is survived by his wife Therese (DesMarais) Sweeney of Poultney, his siblings Kathleen Jones (Ben) of Hampton and William Sweeney (Chris) of Florida. He was blessed with two nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Raphael Church, 21 East Main St., Poultney, VT 05864 on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 2 PM with the Rev. Lourd. Burial will be in the spring in St. Raphaels Cemetery in Poultney. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Raphaels Church in Phillip's memory.
