Obituary of Kathryn Somich

Obituary – Kathryn Somich Kathryn (Strich) Somich, 98, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born on August 31, 1919 in Granville, she was the daughter of Paul and Catherine (Farkas) Strich. On November 12, 1938 she married Alec Somich. They were married for 49 years before his death in September1988. Katie retired from Telescope. She greatly enjoyed the people she worked with and for. She was the oldest member of the Mettowee Valley Senior Citizens. Katie was predeceased by her sisters Ann Middleton and Helen Halupka, as well as her brothers Michael, Paul, John, Steven, and Alec. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Oakley Donald Binck. Katie is survived by her three daughters, Kathryn Binck of Parrish, Florida, Kristine (Dan) Morris of Parrish, Florida and Poultney, Vermont, and Susan (Geoffrey) King of Wells, Vermont. Her four granddaughters Karen (Beecher) Baker, Heidi (Brett) Toon, Gretchen (John) Hartigan, and Alexis (Tim) Oley. Her great grand-children Ryan Woodard, Beecher, Erica and Chase Baker, Alec and Wayne Toon, Bailey and Molly Hartigan, Michael and Catherine Oley. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 PM Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church Street, Granville, NY. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow at the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Middle Granville. Donations may be made to the Slate Valley Museum, 17 Water Street, Granville NY 12832 to honor her Slovak heritage, or the Granville Senior Shuttle, Village of Granville, POB 208, Granville, NY 12832 so that her elderly friends may enjoy transportation in their community.
