Obituary of Vernon W. Colditz

Vernon W. Colditz Granville, NY – Vernon W. Colditz RN/PNP, age 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home following a short illness, on June 26, 2018. Vernon was born on March 14, 1953 in Amsterdam, NY the son of the late Rudolph "Rudy" and Naomi (Ruska) Colditz. Vernon devoted his life to the nursing profession. He held an AAS in Nursing from Sage Jr. College of Albany (1980), BA/BS Psychology/Human Service and Nursing (R.N. Option with Departmental honors) from SUNY/Plattsburgh (1975 and 1991), Master of Science Degree from Russell Sage College in Troy (2002) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing: Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner and a Post Master's Certificate from Russell Sage College in Troy in Nursing Education. Many patients were lucky to have been in his care and other nurses to learn from him. He was a member of the National League for Nursing, American Nursing Association, Vermont State Nurses Association and Alumni Association SUNY/ Plattsburg/Sage College. Most recently he had been employed at St. Peter's Health Partners in Albany as a Nurse Practioner in the St. Peter's Addiction Recovery Center. He had previously worked extensively for the NYS Department of Corrections in various prison mental health facilities and taught as adjunct faculty for Vermont Technical College and RN program as well as Northeast Health Schools of Nursing at Samaritan and Memorial Hospitals. Vernon enjoyed playing piano in his spare time. He was also an avid gardener. Over the years he had many canine and feline companions whose company he enjoyed. Vernon's favorite thing in life was spending time with friends. Whether dining together, celebrating an event or just talking he loved being with his many friends. He had recently purchased what he referred to lovingly as his dream home in Granville. Vernon is survived by his sister Elaine LeTurneau and her husband Charlie, and two nieces. His memory will be cherished by his close friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY. Friends may call from 1 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Granville, NY.
