Obituary of Alice Dutcher

Alice Dutcher North Granville, NY- Alice Dutcher passed away at Slate Valley Center on November 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on July 14, 1927 the daughter of Leroy and Carrie Johnson. But she found her "forever home" with foster parents Minnie and Reed Parker. Alice worked in the Glens Falls Shirt Factory and for J & J Lingerie. She took schooling to be a children's nurse and was employed at the Emma Laing Stevens Hospital in Granville. She also worked at the newly built Emma Laing Stevens Hospital in North Granville, which eventually became the Slate Valley Center. She worked at the Nursing facility for many years after the hospital closed. Alice was an avid reader. Her real passionate shown in her knitting and crocheting projects. She knitted mittens for a number of years and donated them to Head Start for the children enrolled there. She always found delight when her projects were truly appreciated. Another favorite pastime was Bingo. Alice was predeceased by a daughter Marcy Dark and two sisters Jean Rice and Frances Jones. Left to cherish her memory are her children Henry Dutcher and his wife Sandy Suib-Dutcher of Charlestown, RI, Wanda Sowizdrzal and her husband David of Glens Falls and her son-in-law Jeffrey Dark. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Chris Dark, Kim Dark, Ethan Dutcher, Elliot Dutcher, Bradlee Tyler and Amanda Murphy and four great grandchildren Bradie, Lily, Jase and Finley. Alice is also survived by a sister Peggy Billow of Granville and her best friend May Thomas. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. Friends may call from 2 PM until the time of the service.
