~Shelby A. McEachron

MIDDLE GRANVILLE, NY — Shelby Alexis McEachron, 21, of Middle Granville and Statesboro, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1996 in Rutland, Vermont, the daughter of Andy and Suzanne (Smith) McEachron. Shelby graduated from Granville High School in 2014 and was about to begin her senior year at Georgia Southern University. She was working toward a degree in logistics.

Shelby was an incredibly active young woman. Throughout her high school career, she loved theater and performed in plays in Granville, Poultney, and Dorset. Musical talent was hers, and she enjoyed playing several instruments and singing in both her high school and church choirs. She and her buddy, Philip Hicks, often sang the national anthem at Granville athletic events where she sang and then ran over to join her team on the court or field.

Shelby was athletic and loved playing many sports: field hockey, track, basketball, golf, and her favorite sport, softball. While not the most outstanding athlete, Shelby received the Bev Tatko Award her senior year, which is given to the senior athlete who exemplifies leadership, teamwork, and spirit. She continued playing sports on intramural flag football, soccer, and softball teams at Georgia Southern University (GSU).

Shelby was an active volunteer, giving time to the Granville Food Pantry, the Granville Little League, and whatever volunteer project needed a little help. While attending GSU, she was initiated into Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and made many wonderful friends. Shelby was blessed with fabulous roommates who she considered her best of friends. She enjoyed working many different places, and especially at the Recreation Athletic Center at GSU.

The best part of Shelby was her sparkling personality and sunny outlook on life. Shelby loved her work, her friends and her family. She was the best daughter and sister anyone could have ever asked for. She is survived by her parents, Andy and Suzanne; her brothers, Bradley and Andrew; her sister, Katherine; maternal grandmother, Loretta Moore; her maternal step-grandmother, Trish Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Charles Smith, and her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Jean McEachron.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St. in Granville. All are invited to attend Shelby’s memorial service at the Peniel Presbyterian Church in Granville on Saturday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shine On Shelby, which will benefit the Granville Little League fields. Donations may be sent to Shine On Shelby, c/o Great Meadow Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 8, Granville, NY 12832.
