Roger was strong in the strength of gentleness, of meekness, faith and love. Like Jesus also, he was not afraid to speak truth to power. I will always be grateful for his kind understanding and supportive friendship. Douglas W. Draper

Roger and Murhl Howland were the workers my Mom and Dad made their choice through. I was 9 years old at the time. Roger had been in the work for 5 years and they were the first to profess in the meetings he and his companion(s) held. He was pretty special to our family. He had such a soft gentle way about him. I remember when he went to the Philippines - it was so hard to see him go so far away, but we knew he was answering God's call. So grateful for his willingness to answer God's call to lay down his life and go forth in the way Jesus sent forth his disciples and continues to send them forth. Such a deep comfort to think of him and others who have finished faithfully, rejoicing forever. The sower and the ripened fruit rejoicing together forever in the presence of our Father and our Bridegroom. What a beautiful picture!

Roger was in the Northern New York field on one of his home visits and as teens we loved having him come to our home. He had the perfect blend of mischief, love and humilty. Now he gets to be with the One he knows so well.

Roger was s great help to me in many experiences laboring in the Philippines. I’ll not forget hiking down the mountain trail from Magssysay, Bukudnon, after a wonderful special meeting. He asked me if I had ever seen a gorilla. I replied, only in the zoo. That wasn’t the kind he meant. In a little while we saw these men coming toward us with big machine guns. They were of the NPA and questioned us thoroughly. Roger handled it in the meekness and gentleness of Christ. We were told not to return there again. But an eternsl work had begun in the hearts of some dear souls there. Roger pioneered many place. So thanjful God will not forget his labor of love . Kathy McLin

Roger was one of the most humble servants of God I ever had the privilege of knowing. I was with him on Special meeting rounds and at Freedom convention preps one year. He had a quiet sense of humor. His love for God and the friends and co-workers was evident. I know his soul is at rest now and he can encourage us all from heaven to keep pressing on. Brenda Brown

I had always heard a lot about Roger since meeting the Gatan's back in the 1970’s. He had spent time at their home while going to language school. It was a privilege to finally meet him at Cavite convention quite a few years ago now. I can still see him enjoying a sweet mango with the juice running down his hands and arms. He certainly did love the Philippines and the Filipino friends. A faithful servant has finished his course. Merlin and Myrna (Gatan) Nelson
