Obituary of Bertha Irene Dennison

Granville, NY - Bertha I Dennison passed away on May 30, 2024 following a short illness. Bertha was born on February 12, 1943 in Middletown Springs, Vermont, the daughter of the late Henry R. and Polly (White) Lewis, Sr. Her family moved to East Wells, which had a change of school for Bertha. She then attended school in Granville, NY. Through her sister Brenda, Bertha had the good fortune to meet Roger Dennison when he came home from the military. They married when Bertha was 16. They started a family and she lived her fairy tale, which ended happily ever after. Bertha worked for many years and retired from General Electric in Rutland. When they retired they enjoyed lots of travel and trips to Connecticut to the casino. As any good retired people they decided to give Florida a try. After a brief time, they decided they wanted to come back to Granville. They sold the house in Florida and returned to Granville purchasing a lovely home, back on E. Potter Avenue. Bertha enjoyed reading and was an avid fan of "Judge Judy". She was predeceased by a son Roger, a daugher Emma Rivers and her husband Roger Dennison. She was the last of her siblings, Henry Lewis, Jr., Charlie , Carl , Bob, Marjorie McLaughlin, and Anna Bourn, all having predeceased her. Survivors are her daughter Shirley Slaughter (Elvis) and her son-in-law Ernest Rivers. Bertha was blessed with 9 grandchildren Amy L. Rivers, Jeremy P. Rivers, Randy C. Rivers, Dr. Loni N. Slaughter-Adebayo, Lona M. Slaughter, Elvis Slaughter, Jr., Heather Dennison, Roger Dennison Jr. and Charles Dennison and 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was also very thankful for the friendship of her sister-in-law: Erla Dennison and Helen Peters and a friend Calvin Bourn these past few years. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 2 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY, with Pastor Daniel Poucher presiding.
