Obituary of Walter G Ballard

Walter G. Ballard, Sr. Granville, NY – Walter G. Ballard, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 unexpectedly at his home. Walter was born on February 28, 1948 in Granville, New York the son of the late Truman Orcutt Ballard Sr. and Anna (Batease) Ballard. Walter graduated from Granville Central School in 1967. He was a proud Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. Walter was employed at General Electric in Rutland, Vermont for over 27 years before retiring. Walter was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather (also lovingly known as "P"). He enjoyed doing ceramics, camping, traveling and spending time with his family, for whom he was their favorite cook. He enjoyed spending time with his dear friend Harry "Tiger" Skidmore. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son Daniel F. Ballard, and siblings Truman "Sonny" Orcutt Ballard, Joan Rockwell, Judith Panoushek and Ernestine Ballard. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Regina Chadwick Ballard of Granville and their three children Walter G. Ballard, Jr.(Angie) of Puyallup, Washington, Bethanne Granger (Jason) of Granville, NY and Brett Ballard (Blake) of Chicago, IL. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Walter G. Ballard III, Paisley Ballard, Dakota Ballard, Chessie Stone, Amelia Carter-Martin, Zelda Carter-Kyes all of Puyallup, Washington and Tyler, Spencer, Payten and Parker Granger all of Granville, NY. Walter is also survived by three brothers James, Edwin and John Ballard and two sisters Joyce Beebe and Francis Campney as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He held much love for his extended family the Chadwicks, whom he felt were the same as his own family. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 26 at 3:30 PM at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville with Rev. Kelly Warner of the Hartford Methodist Church presiding. Friends may call from 1:30 until the time of the service. Following the funeral service, the family will be hosting a potluck gathering at the Hartford Fire Department to continue the celebration of Walter's life. Dishes may be dropped off in advance of the service if you wish. In lieu of flowers the family asks that Walter be remembered with memorial contributions to one of the following: Granville Rescue Squad, Hartford Methodist Church or the Hartford Fire Department.
